If only I had a dollar for every unidentified bird that I’ve seen in the last 20 years!

I empathise with Janet!  There was a small flock flying down Alinga St this morning - so possibly her flock doing a second lap.  They ducked into a oak, still with plenty of leaves, and I could get no sense at all of what they were.  About House Sparrow sized and the bits I could see were brownish but they weren't behaving like sparrows.

We saw a closely packed flock of around 70-80 goldfinches when we were riding along the Majura bikepath on Friday. A far greater number together than we've seen previously.

A challenging question Janet.  Can you give an indication of roughly (a) how many birds in a flock (b) size of an individual bird?

Some large starling flocks are moving around at present.

Does anyone have any idea what these birds may be? I can't see reference any on the chatline to groups of birds on the move at the moment.
