Some years ago, I reported in detail the predation of a Common Coot by a Water
Rat. It happened adjacent to the wooden bridge leading to Dunrossil Drive. (I
can't remember the name of the bridge or the inlet.)
The observation started with the coot clearly being distessed from below the
water, leading to its being drowned and then dragged to the shore just below
the bridge where the rat stripped feathers and had a chicken meal.
Somewhat less of a feat than predating the teal, but dramatic nonetheless.
