Hi All,

Please see an excited message below from Birgita Hansen with regards to Nintai’s where-abouts. I must say that we all very much share her excitement!

The last fix 3 days ago was at Canturf, so Michael and I went for a search around there this morning. Upon our return we received this message which explained why we didn’t find her!

I have attached a low res image (in line with chatline restrictions) but am more than happy to provide a better one for anyone interested.

Cheers Lori

Hi team

I was so excited and nearly went through the roof after downloading Nintai’s data today!! She has finally left the ACT and as of yesterday’s fix, is hanging out in sugar cane fields just south and west of Mackay!!! How awesome! Map attached for circulation.

With a bit of a struggle and help from my tech colleagues, we managed to access the most recent Sentinel surface reflectance images and NDVI images (12/3), which show the cane field recently cropped and bare earth. Can’t quite tell if there is any surface water in the field – the resolution of the images isn’t high enough. So it looks like she’s lobbed into one of those high intensity coastal agricultural areas in central Queensland, which fits with her recent choices of hanging out at the turf farm.

I cannot express enough how thrilled I am with these data. I’m celebrating tonight with some expensive bubbly. And I’m also hugely relieved to see she has started her migration - she must be doing OK or she wouldn’t have been able to manage the ~1700km flight. Let’s hope she stages for a while in QLD and then continues on safely to her next northerly destination.

Cheers

Geet.
