While blue cheeks are generally regarded to be definitive for Crimson Rosella hybrids in the wild, it is not necessarily so in aviary bred birds. Try this one.

Thanks Sandra,

Interesting that you are the second to suggest Blue Crimson Rosellas. Upon checking i note that i have neglected to add ( I did on Facebook ) that the Bird was with Eastern Rosellas and during my survey did not see nor hear Crimsons.

This is the quote i got from the gentleman on Facebook.

"This is a blue mutation Rosella, It's not crimson because the cheeks are not blue and it isn't pale-headed because there isn't enough blue on the front! So it looks best for an Eastern Rosella, I'm fairly sure these are basically non-existent in aviculture so it could actually be a naturally occurring mutation! very cool and thanks for sharing "

It looks very much to me what the aviary bird breeders call a Blue Crimson Rosella. My grandfather was a bird breeder and some of my cousins and nephews still are. It is almost certainly an aviary escapee.

There are pictures on commercial sites like this one.

Hi all,

I saw this bird today on Smiths Road near Angle Crossing Road.

I have put it up on Facebook for an ID and have been told it is a "Blue" Eastern Rosella. What do you all think?
