I agree that the impact on birdlife should be measured in some scientific way so that future actions can be based on evidence rather than conjecture. It was a ticketed ($) event with a closed off area, so the organisers made money. The return,
if any, to the ANBG should be part of the public record. It is a government entity, part of the Department of the Environment, and subject to audit and oversight. Loud noise lasting a short period of time such as when a plane goes overhead is one thing, but
the imposition of loud music that played for 8 hours solid is another thing. I would expect that birds could cope with the former, but would be driven off (for some unknown period of time) by the later. This is speculation on my part, and should be studied!
It is a great relief that the Tawny Frogmouths that had a nest in one of the trees in the lawns area finished nesting a week or so ago and have flown off. It would have been dreadful to have been "tied" to the nest.

Interesting idea. Is there any evidence that it has had an impact on birdlife? Are there fewer birds there today than on Friday? Or how else would we measure
it? The very interesting talk to COG this month might suggest that big noise could have short term impact by disrupting communications. There is some research about various birds adapting to urban noise. One thing it brings to mind was I was at Jurong bird
park in Singapore watching the raptor display flight when several military planes passed over very low with an huge noise. I guess the birds are habituated but it I don’t know if any impact that had on the birds. The noise impacted on me. Noisy flocks of cockatoos
are pretty loud too. As ANBG does not charge entry, how much funds does that generate (presumably most through the car parking fees), that goes towards maintaining the gardens.

I didn't attend ANBG yesterday but from
this
it seems to be entirely a commercial undertaking - and the style of music listed would suggest 'extremely loud' could be an understatement. It would look to be totally against the usual principles of ANBG- unless they have been amended to include "do anything
that raises a $".

On Saturday 24-November-2018 from 13:00 to 21:00, an outdoor music concert (Carl Cox, DJ) was held on the main lawns at the Botanic Gardens. The music was extremely loud. Does anyone know how these events are approved? How could this possibly
seen to be in keeping with the values of the gardens? How could it be seen as something that could only be held in the gardens? I fear for the impact that it had on the birdlife. ... Richard
