Hullo everyone again,
Many thanks to those of you who gave advice, sympathy etc. regarding my broken Nikon Monarch 10x42s. I had bought them in August 2010 for $699 from the Binocular and Telescope Shop in Glebe on the basis of advice received from this chatline
at the time and have been very happy with them. The shop had various more expensive brands, but when I tested them outside, the Nikons, to my eyes seemed very good for the price and I couldn’t see enough improvement in the optics of the more expensive brands
to justify the higher cost. I wonder if I’d reach the same conclusion if I went through the exercise again?
Anyway, for the time being all’s well. Never underestimate what can be achieved by my husband with cotton buds and a can of Silicon lubricant! I’d have sworn that eyepiece cup was never going back on again but now it seems as good as new!
I’d better go out and do a bit of birding to celebrate…
Cheers,
Sue

Subject: Binos
Hi All,
My faithful Nikon 10x42s broke today! Well the optics are still OK, but the plastic eyepiece ring for the right eye broke off.
I’d appreciate advice. Firstly, where in Canberra can binoculars be repaired? Secondly, where do you go to buy binoculars these days? And thirdly, does anybody have binoculars as good or better than mine for sale?
Thanks,
Sue
