Before I wrote that I should have consulted The Bird Collectors Mearns and Mearns (1998) which has 5 pages on Emin Pasha and an illustration of small birds (possibly the GCW itself) being handed over to him by a native hunter.  Emin left most of the collection behind when walking out with Stanley.  However, he ‘tried to compensate for the loss at each step of the way.  Stanley failed to see the point of all his collecting and was greatly irritated …’  Emin Pasha kept collecting and was killed in 1890 about a hundred miles east-southeast of Stanley Falls.

No doubt the genus name Eminia and Stanley's expedition to rescue Emin Pasha in the darkest Congo 1886-1890.  'You've got here in the nick of time, Henry, and while you're here I'd like you to take a look at this interesting little grey-capped bird I've managed to get hold of.  Do you suppose it could be new to science?'

A related topic did appear in these columns several years ago and it could be a race  between erudite birders for the first correct answer.

What is the connection between the explorer Henry Morton Stanley  and the grey capped warbler.
