In 2017 I was very surprised to find the pair of Tawny Frogmouths that nest in our big Yellow Box turned up after the fire, were found close to every day, and nested as usual, raising 2 chicks.

This year has been very different.  My memory is that I have only seen them on 4 occasions up to last Saturday, and then in unusual circumstances such as flying through the yard after dark.  On one occasion I saw 2 hunting together,

On Saturday 25 August the female turned up roosting in daylight on one of the regular roosts.  She was there again on Sunday and I thought I had heard another bird "ooming" earlier.  This morning she had moved to another frequently used roost (close to the nest tree).  On looking more closely I realised that the male bird was perched just above her.

They have not yet started to nest but they aren't very late yet!
