G’day all,

Lindell’s email brought to mind a trip to the Pilliga earlier this month.

It’s really dry up there at the moment, and we spent a few nights camping by a dam.

I couldn’t believe the numbers of Glossy Black-cockatoos that came to drink every evening around sunset – there were upwards of 50 GBCs at the dam at once.  I don’t ever remember seeing more than about 10 GBCs at a time before.

The other highlight was a group of 5 Turquoise Parrots coming in to drink at dawn.

I would love to have spent a day or two just sitting by the dam and watching what came in – if anyone’s got the time and inclination, I’d recommend taking advantage of the current dry conditions and doing just that!
