Counted seven female and two male superb parrots feeding in a tall prolifically seeding Chinese elm in my backyard in Cook today a few moments ago (along with a couple of immature Crimson Rosellas).
Similar trees are located in a number of back and front yards in Aston and Grylls streets.
Seems a regular Autumn thing now, though perhaps arriving a little later this year. The (green) seeds have already been present for a few weeks, attracting the usual concerted interest from eastern and crimson rosellas (and unusually this year -- at least
in my local vicinity -- king parrots). First day of superbs though, to my knowledge.
If previous years provide a pattern, the superb parrots should continue to visit these trees pretty much daily now over the next several weeks, until the seeds are thoroughly depleted.
Phil.
