Indeed one can wonder at the situation of the sibling who was carrying a .22 
rifle at the time and a shot that missed. If the intention was to shoot the 
eagle in this circumstance, in which you would imagine it would be hard to be 
calm and entirely accurate, due to their obvious proximity, if the shot did not 
miss, there may have been equal possibility of shooting dead or just causing 
injury to young Pamela Raper. Lucky that all got through the incident.

The little girl was called Pamela Raper ( about 15 months ) and she was nearly 
lifted off the ground with the eagle’s talons embedded in each shoulder. 
Fortunately one of her siblings was carrying a .22 rifle at the time and a shot 
that missed probably caused the eagle to release its grip.

Personally speaking I am satisfied that this is not an urban or even a rural 
myth.
