Goshawks at the ANBG still welcoming visitors (not)

My record was a dozen swoops in one session. They’ll pursue uphill until the brick services building. From behind or right at the lens, unlike Magpies they’ll do either.

Juvenile Brown Goshawk at the north edge of the Botanic Gardens was very visible this morning, perched on a branch of the nest tree, and calling. One of the parents was nearby, and I must have hung around for too long, as he swooped me three times. I accepted the first as a warning but thought the second and third low pass were unnecessary as I was retreating up the hill by then. The yellow eyes get fiercer as they get closer!

 

I say ‘he’, by the way, simply on size: the adult was considerably smaller than the juvenile, even allowing for the young one being a little fluffier.
