Bill,

I was just about to give the very same comment when Philip’s email came through. The full title of the book is “Australian Bird Names: a Complete Guide”. It is /was published by CSIRO Publishing in 2013. I suggest you ask Santa Clause for a copy as it will answer just about every question you could have on the naming of Australia’s birds. It is one of the best reference books anyone can have.

The book Australian bird names by Ian Fraser & Jeannie Gray gives good answers to that kind of question.
