About the netting, wouldn’t that issue be that the net is totally flexible, unlike any natural situation, and would just bend to match their movements, so they would get tangled going backwards unless there is something to hold the net firm. Surely it would need to be a very tight fit for the “scales don't let them reverse” to be an issue, snakes are actually quite smooth.

 

I once found a desiccated dead blue tongue lizard having been caught in netting.

I suspect the answer would depend on just how tight the hole is.  

 

Certainly they get into big trouble if they try to reverse on bird netting as the scales don't let them reverse.  I suspect in a really tight hole they could get stuck in the same way.
