I have looked an EBird file with ~750k records for NSW and of the records for Varied Sitella 17% had an associated count of 1.  So definitely not totally wrong.

also my first snake of spring  - a nice 1 metre Red Bellied Black.  time to start carrying that snake bandage!!

finally – well away from me - what I think was a single Varied Sittella sitting in the very top of a tall dead gum.  Hard to get a good look at before it flew off but it seemed to have that distinctive Sittella shape in flight.  would it be totally wrong to see a single bird of this species?
