This afternoon the Gardens were as lively as I’ve seen them in a while, with a nice range of wintering honeyeaters, a Bassian Thrush and a Rose Robin amongst others. The highlight was a young Olive Whistler in the Grevillea section, presumably the same as reported on Ebird on the 21st http://ebird.org/ebird/australia/view/checklist/S37716781

The Grevillea section is a couple of hundred metres along the main path, towards the Sydney Gully end. There is a substantial green sign “Genus Grevillea” on the left hand side of the track (if you are coming from the carpark), when first seen the OW was hopping across the path near this sign. I followed it for 10 minutes or so, it spent about equal time on the ground as it did in low shrubs, and seemed to have quite a bit of success finding food amongst the woodchips. A young bird based on the rather rufous colour in the wings, and the pale bill.

Cheers

Steve
