Very cold at 7.30, but once the sun came out of the fog things warmed up. Construction next to the Couranga Cr pond hasn't scared off the Australasian Grebes, but not much else around there. The large open paddock on cnr of Tralee and Couranga towards the horse paddocks had the usual 4 pipits. Decided to walk along the rail line for further than usual - about half a km today. Came upon a mixed flock which included speckled warblers, golden whistler male, several white-eared honeyeaters, white-plumed honeyeaters, scarlet robins, southern whitefaces, yellow-rumped, buff-rumped and brown thornbills, weebills, a grey shrikethrush, red-browed finches and some striated pardalotes. Magical!
Will include this bit of west Hume on the route for the COG outing in mid-July.
