I think the flock of Superb Parrots at Yerrabi Pond is more or less resident. I have seen them regularly on both sides of the lake and in nearby Gungahlin suburbia.

Subject: [canberrabirds] Yerrabi Pond & Superb Parrots

Hi All,

I went for a short walk around Yerrabi Pond yesterday afternoon primarily to see if the Great Crested Grebe was still in residence. I didn't see it (wonder if anyone else has seen it in the past week??) but the Musk Duck was present.

Highlight was the sound of Superb Parrots drifting across the pond when I was on the southern side. I headed toward the sound which gradually died away as I approached the area. I thought that they may have flown away but the occasional soft sound was heard and sure enough, perched high in three eucalypts, were at least 15 Superb Parrots having an afternoon siesta. It appeared to be a mix of male, female and immature birds ... at least 4 males.

Photos on Flickr for anyone interested.

Have a great birding weekend!!

Cheers
Julie
