As a result what is in Con's photo the 'Grey Duck (aka Pacific Black Duck) is currently listed as "Nationally Critical" by NZ Authorities

There may well be far more Northern Mallard or Domestic Mallard or Mallard hybrid habitat in Australian than is currently occupied by Mallards. At any rate we often saw flights of (domestic?) Mallards flying along the seaward side of the coastline on the Coromandel Peninsula in the North Island of NZ. The small flock in the image did not feed but appeared to be riding out either/or the high tide and an ex Cyclone Debbie deluge among the mangroves. Note the plumage variations among the drakes. |
