Subject: _expression_ of Interest - Swift Parrot Survey, Tarcutta Hills Reserve (NSW) [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]
Good morning everyone,
Bush Heritage is part of a consortium of organisations (ANU, Birdlife, Landcare, Greening Australia and Bush Heritage) that are jointly working to improve long term viability of the nationally endangered Swift
Parrot population in New South Wales. The Swift Parrot population is currently estimated as having less than 2000 birds. Within NSW the species is recognised as being at risk of extinction and therefore is listed as endangered. Swifts Parrots are known
to frequent Tarcutta Hills, a Bush Heritage Reserve, as they utilise the large flowering gums as an important source of nectar and lerps before returning to their breeding grounds in Tasmania.
We have a small window of opportunity to survey these parrots in the coming weeks and we are looking for volunteers who have bird survey experience to assist over the following weekend at our Tarcutta Hills Reserve (NSW):
Saturday 27th May
Sunday 28th May
Tarcutta Hills Reserve is located 2.5 hours (230kms) east of Canberra or 4.5hours (460kms) north east of Melbourne
https://www.bushheritage.org.au/places-we-protect/new-south-wales/tarcutta and has basic cabin accommodation with fireplace, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom facilities for this weekend (full access and accommodation information will be provided on confirmation
of placement).
_expression_ of Interest
This will be a very popular opportunity and the number of positions are limited. We ask that if you are availible and interested, you respond via email with a short paragraph outlining your skills
and experiences with bird surveys by SUNDAY 21ST MAY. Our Reserve Manager Phil Palmer will then finalise the team members and notification and confirmations will be sent by
MONDAY 22nd MAY.
Attached is a Position Description with further detail but please don’t hesitate to contact me for any clairifications.
We look forward to hearing from you soon,
Michelle
