Tasmania is the place to go for large lapwing flocks. It usually isn’t too hard to find flocks of several dozen and can they range right up to flocks a couple of hundred strong.

Here is an old cropped shot that contains about 70:

For memory I counted 115 in the full size photo, but it turned into a bit of a Where’s Wally counting exercise with all the grass.

Cheers

About 4.30 yesterday evening a noticed at leat 16 Masked lapwing having a meeting on the rugby oval at Duntroon. The oval at the new set of lights on Fairbairn Ave.

I have never seen a flock of Lapwings before. They were in a rough circle facing each other what were they doing?

Do they have juvenile flocks ? Do they participate in speed dating for the unattached ?

Also last Saturday early morning saw 7 Gang gangs heading into the ANU

And at least 50 YTBC heading in from the West over Giralang on Saturday and since daily visits to the pond of about 10 taking in water at the weir.
