I've also observed the v aggressive behaviours of p. s. hens from Bittern; they seemed to `rule the roost' that area Sz -----Original Message----- From: Elizabeth Compston Sent: Friday, 31 March 2017 10:17 AM To: Birds Canberra <> Subject: purple swamp hens Yesterday, from Bittern Hide we saw an aggressive swamp hen chasing another swamp hen, then pushing it under water and trying to hold it's head under water as it pecked it's head. The bird escaped but the chasing continued with more swamp hens joining in. Unfortunately we were not able to stay long enough to really sort things out; but there was no doubt about the aggressive behaviour. Why such behaviour?
