I've also observed the v  aggressive behaviours of p. s. hens from Bittern;
they seemed to `rule the roost' that area

Yesterday, from Bittern Hide we saw an aggressive swamp hen chasing another
swamp hen, then pushing it under water and trying to hold it's head under
water as it pecked it's head.  The bird escaped but the chasing continued
with more swamp hens joining in.  Unfortunately we were not able to stay
long enough to really sort things out; but there was no doubt about the
aggressive behaviour. Why such behaviour?
