Hi. eBird is based at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and is the global database for bird sightings. eBird Australia
http://ebird.org/content/australia/ is part of that.
Birdata is owned and operated by Birdlife Australia
http://birdata.birdlife.org.au/ .
Both provide the capacity to enter observation data online or via a smartphone app.
eBird Australia is preferred by most observers at present as it provides far more information, and more useful information, than does Birdata.
COG receives Canberra region data from both sources for incorporation into its database, and the information is summarised in the Annual Bird Reports. In the year to 30 June 2016, 87% of the Canberra area records came from eBird and just 0.1% from Birdata.
Please use either one or the other. Submitting the data to both will produce duplicate records in COG's (and others') databases. Although we have systems for identifying and removing duplicate records, it is good practice to submit observations to just one
database.

Can anyone explain the difference between reporting bird sightings in Birdata versus Ebird? Is it worth recording sightings for both programs or just Ebird?
