Morning Shorty,

Thanks for sending the enlarged photo of the bird. Despite the fact that I can’t see any white in the tail feathers, I am now sure that your photo is of a juvenile Flame Robin. The buff wing “bars” are found in the juvenile Flame and while similar to those of the Pink Robin, are larger in your bird than those of the Pink Robin.

Interestingly, about a month ago I took a Canadian birder up to Bulls Head looking for Flame Robins and didn’t find one until we were much higher along the Mt Franklin Road. I have another Canadian coming in a couple of weeks so will take him up there and hope that the birds are starting to move as their territories break down.

Cheers,

Mark

At Bull's Head on the weekend there were Flame Robins around and i assumed these were young Flames but doing some research i am now wondering if they were Pink Robins.
