Thank you for that link to The Guardian, Susanne. Things are happening in geodesy. One is the co-ordinates correction that you have mentioned. I don't think it will affect us much as the accuracy of the GPS/GLONASS receivers that most of us use in the field
are accurate to only about three metres most of the time.
Another is the bigger picture: Statement on Datum Modernisation - GDA2020 to replace GDA94

'The fully operational and enhanced global and regional satellite navigation constellations including Galileo (Europe), GPS (USA), GLONASS (Russia), Beidou (China), QZSS (Japan) and IRNSS (India) that will enable affordable consumer grade GNSS [Global Navigation
Satellite System] positioning to better than 50 cm accuracy and augmented positioning to better than 3 cm accuracy in real–time'

Hi all
not sure how the update for GPS coordinates are going to impact on Birdwatching and sharing of sites, but it might be something to keep in mind.
Cheers,

Many thanks to all who provided directions, managed to photograph one and hear the second in the reeds opposite Tadorna Hide (about 1230 today).
