Photo of part of the smaller brood attached. They were older than the larger brood. The adults in the photo were the ones that mated.

In case anyone is heading towards Armidale, it is well worth dropping in to Dangars Lagoon and Racecourse Lagoon near Uralla. I called in to Dangars Lagoon on Saturday and got some good video of two broods of Blue-billed Ducks that were in front of the bird hide. One brood had 8 young and the other 6. The males with them were displaying and one of the pairs mated so there may be more young on the way.

Racecourse Lagoon was also worthwhile with hundreds of waterfowl present.
