Thanks for that. I have now found some relevant links. I don’t know why I did not get a result before.

The bird is actually in Watson, and I'm asking around after finding out that the owner no longer wants it and it is being kept in a tiny cage on its own. . Anyway, I've had offers of a home
so far from Young and Royalla, so I'll wait to see if anyone else responds. The owner is not prepared to travel with it, so I will if need be.
FYI Philip: Bywong is only 20 mins from Dickson, and most Bywongians frequently travel to Canberra!

Zebra finches are the most commonly kept of the Aust finches. I think to be useful there would need to be other Zebra
finches, not just finches. I think most pet shops that have birds would have them most of the time, (certainly the one at Tuggeranong Hyperdome usually does) going price is in the vicinity of $10 per pair. Whether they would take an extra is hard to know,
even for free. Although most of the experienced people are not that interested in wild type (colour) Zebra finches because they are too prolific. Surely there are other people closer to Bywong than Canberra, considering travelling to Canberra for one Zebra
finch is rather extreme. Strangely when I did a google search for the Canberra Finch Club which certainly did exist (they had a Diamond Firetail as their emblem) but I don’t know their current status, I did not get a result (only lots of strangely unrelated
things). Not in phone book either. I believe former contributor Benj Whitworth (dec’d Feb 2016 there are contacts listed on this line at that time who may know of contacts for Canberra Finch Club) was associated with the Canberra Finch Club. I could not even
find the Avicultural Society of Australia (I was a member many years ago..........).
Or just advertise on gumtree: “one male Zebra finch free to a good home”

Yes, I know that our list does not focus on aviculture, nonetheless this may be of interest to someone. Merran Laver lives in Bywong.

Do any of our members keep finches or know of anyone that has them in an aviary?
This little guy is not wildlife (it is a pet) but is very lonely and is free if someone can provide it a good home with other finches for company.
If you are interested, please contact Merran Laver (Wildcare member) on or 0401 492 580.
