Yes, the ANBG bookshop has copies of “Field Guide to the Butterflies
of the Australian Capital Territory”.
At least, it had copies first thing this morning, of which it will surely have sold some since, as this book makes an excellent Christmas present
for all your naturalist friends.

If anyone wants a good book for identifying Canberra’s butterflies then you can’t go past COG member Dr Suzi Bond’s just released book “ a Field Guide to the
Butterflies of the Australian Capital Territory” which had its launch at the Australian National Botanic Gardens last Tuesday – it is a brilliant publication. COG has it on sale and I would assume so does the ANBG bookshop.
An ideal Christmas present for all those interested in local natural history.
Cheers,
Mark

Many blue butterflies - like these lovely hairstreaks that are about at Campbell Park at the moment have long tails on their hind wings plus eye spots. These act as a 'decoy head' for birds. Very often these butterflies will be head down
feeding with the false head waving about.
You will see many of these butterflies flying about with the tails plus surrounding bit of wing gone - probably down the throat of a frustrated bird.
