Another candidate would be one of the Yoyettas (http://dr-pop.net/yoyetta.htm),
which are also small and black.
I found a Yoyetta in my house in Curtin last night, but cannot work out the
species - apparently there are at least six in Canberra, including undescribed
species and one that is restricted to the ACT, all very similar!
There are excellent recordings of the calls on the dr-pop site.

There's a smaller sp of cicada hatching out at the moment, about half the size
of the Red-eye, blackish, but with the eyes dark-coloured too. It has a
pleasant lisping song.
Does anyone know the name of this sp?
