We can go a bit further than bird sp and say, by the arrangement of its toes, that it is a passerine. And further narrow it down to a passerine that occurs around Carwoola at this time of year.

I finally managed to track one of the accipiters at our place this afternoon and on my assessment of comparatives it ticked all the boxes for a female Collared Sparrowhawk.  I have put a few photos of it on my blog.

 

However I wonder if anyone would care to venture an opinion on the ID of the prey visible in this image .


I am prepared to go as far as bird sp.
