I’ve never seen a bird at the moment of fledging and wondered how it proceeds – how much preparation is there for their first flight, are the parents watching, do they warm up first, do they get pushed or do they jump etc.  There’s a great nest cam that has been following progress of a peregrine pair and their three chicks at the Charles Sturt Uni, Orange NSW, campus.  The chicks fledged on successive days in the last week and the staff/researchers have posted the videos of each occasion.  Interesting and sometimes funny viewing!  Once you know what’s happening, Rubi’s exit and the reaction of the other two is especially funny.

The link is to their blog, you want the 19 Nov entry which at the moment is the latest at the top. This post has  links to each fledging and some other bits and pieces, a kind of ‘best of’ their recent activity.
