After dipping on the flock seen by Michael Lenz earlier in the week I was alerted to, and subsequently saw, one bird of this species on a swamp on the Hoskinstown Plain this afternoon.
It is an addition (species #192) to my Carwoola list.
As we were about 300m away, and the wind was making my camera shake more than somewhat, my photograph is awful but does show how the head of the Avocet
is close to the same colour as the breast of the Australian Shelduck it was hiding behind!
