No Koels in Carwoola yet (a bit early from the few records we have had).  The Noisy Friarbirds arrived a few weeks ago, but then went.  However they are back to raucous, especially up the top of our block where they are discussing 'issues' with the Miners.

On a different topic as we came back from Civic a few minutes ago I spotted a Cattle Egret in a paddock just on the Newline side of Oaks Estate Road..

First I've heard this season.

No Friarbird noise or activity seen here in mid Flynn so far other than a single call several weeks ago. Perhaps they're already too busy nesting?

Koel activity certainly seems higher than in previous years, this morning a male was calling much closer to our house, and as I went to investigate I could hear a female calling kek kek kek excitedly as well.  This continued with the latter in particular seeming to move around a lot.  I saw one male being pursued by a currawong, then could hear two males calling (interestingly both almost all koeling this morning) well apart, as well as the female who then flew past me.  This all lasted around 15 minutes from 6:30, but has been quiet since.

Interesting read (I still hadn't gotten around to reading it, still only half way through the 2014-15 ABR).

Last year, the only record I had in my GBS area was 1 bird on 8/11/15 prior to finding a large fledgling on 6/1/16. On the 22nd I had 2 juvs in adjacent trees (1 would have been the same one as earlier), and 2 vocal adults on the 31st and the juvs were not seen again.

After I posted, definitely 2 birds still making their presence known at 7:40pm, but still think possibly a third bird. Very agitated with a lot of movement and calling nonetheless. Suspect roosting nearby.
