It is an Eastern Reef Egret.  Bill colour variable.  Quite a common bird on South Coast

Think I would go with  Reef Egret, striated has a black cap which this one does not have.

I think it is what we used to call the Mangrove Heron but which is now called the Striated Heron I think. It has wide colour variation including a greyish morph with a yellowish bill , although I only recall seeing the lower bill yellow. Cheers

Hi Everyone,

A friend took this shot recently and I am unable to positively ID it ... Eastern Reef Heron is about all I could come up with, but the yellow bill doesn't seem to fit.

Help with Id would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Julie
