My grandfather who lives at the base of Mt Ainslie had three in his backyard on Monday.

For the last few nights we have heard and then seen 2 young Boobooks near our place. They have been making a begging cricket like call. They are obviously young by their lack of skill in balancing on branches! We looked for them in daylight a few times trying to find were they might be roosting, thinking that if they had fledged they would be roosting on a branch in a fairly dense tree, but with no success. Tonight, we decided they must be roosting in a hollow still and John staked out the most likely one we could see. Success! Out popped an adult and the two chicks and fed the chicks while John was watching. All through September right up till mid November we  were hearing a Boobook calling every week. So we are assuming it was the same bird/s.
