Thank you to those who responded to the butterfly and skink names.
Several people identified the butterfly as an Australian Painted Lady
and several people identified the skink as a Three-toed Skink.
I now know how to tell the difference between an Australian Painted Lady
and an Imperial Jezabel. While both have a sort of Lepidopteran
come-hither look about them, the Jezabel is more flaunty.
Given the circumstances in which I found the skink it rather looks as it
may have been a victim of yesterday's rain event.
Either that, and/or someone ran over it with a bicycle.
regards
Con
