And believe it or not I think it is actually a lot more complex than that from things I have been told by mammalian researchers .................... !!

And to make matters more complex- the "New Guinea Echidna" is, according to some, not one but three species!
see Flannery, T. F. and C. P. Groves (1998). “A revision of the genus
Zaglossus (Monotremata: Tachyglossidae), with description of new species and subspecies.”

That kind of error happens often in PR stuff like that (no doubt Mark is referring to ignoring the Sarus Crane). Another really common example is the error that there are only 2 living species of monotreme, (intending platypus & echidna),
which ignores the New Guinea Echidna...........

[canberrabirds] Tidbinbilla bird list
John, there is a bird list for Tidbinbilla that I have picked up at the visitors centre that is pretty much up to date. They use to be free but someone told me that they are now charging a small fee for it - not sure if that is correct.
There are a couple of errors in it but you need to look carefully to find them. They also have some very bad errors on some of the photographs used on a couple of the ponds in the "Sanctuary" area, e.g. they state that there is only one species of crane in
Australia on the photo of the Brolga. I gather that they have someone looking at updating and correcting a lot of their information. I have told them what the errors are in their photos but not in their bird list pamphlet.
Cheers,
Mark

Is there a recent bird list for tidbinbilla?
