At two sites today (Lanyon & Point Hut) at a large dam with lots of reeds and grass I heard the same call. At each time I searched unsuccessfully for Diamond Firetails, thinking it is probably that. (A year or two ago I did see Diamond Firetails at that Point Hut site on the blitz day.) In both situations there was not an opportunity to investigate closer. On checking the COG website and some others for Brown Quail sounds (the only other similar sound I know of) what I heard was, as well as I can tell, identical to that. In particular the two note sequence. Checking out several recordings of Diamond Firetail via other websites, it is close but not it.

Also this morning, watching a pair of Leaden Flycatchers building a nest and swapping times sitting in it. Also Noisy Friarbirds nearby and they often nest near but I didn’t find any NF nests. (The nest is easy to find and would be easy to photograph being about 5 metres from the car park which is about 2 km from Tuggeranong hyperdome) if someone wants to ask me.

I found many nestings in the 2 days without trying too hard.

Philip
