Subject: [canberrabirds] Spotted Dove calling in Lyons
Heard my first Spotted Dove in Lyons calling this afternoon.
To me, their “coo cu-roo” call sounds like “Ross Pe-rot”, and their “coo-coo cu-roo” call like “Vote Ross Pe-rot”. This comes from hearing them calling frequently in Melbourne, where I was living during the 1992 US presidential
election campaign in which Ross Perot as a candidate. Does anyone else have any other arcane associations for particular bird calls?
