On 9 October 2015 I received notification that it had been reported to the press that the body of  a powerful owl, commonly known as “Powl” had been located in a deceased state. I immediately proceed to Haig Park, McCaughey Street, Turner ACT, where Powl was known to ordinarily reside. I quickly discovered the body located towards the top of a pine tree, being the 5th pine from the street in the middle row of pines between the bowling club and the drain. The body was motionless, in an upright position, with one eye open. This was similar to the position of the bird when viewed by me the previous day.

I photographed the body. That photograph is attached hereto.

Conclusion:

Death not confirmed. Reports of its demise appear premature.
