Apologies to everyone, especially to Michael and to Peter.  I made a terrible mistake.  I went again to Kelly's this afternoon, and, the tree was there, amongst the typha but showing well above it. The tree that the spoonbills nested in.  Watching them right through their breeding, in 2008-09 was a highlight of my bird watching career. Michael, you had not cut the tree down.  I was so wrong.

Geoffrey had a few sharp words to say to me.  I can't understand how I missed the tree.  You can blame old age.  I shall keep very quiet in future until I check things out
