A clutch hatched next to the Information Centre at Tidbinbilla Reserve on 25-26 August 2015. They were off and running by the afternoon of the 26th.

Talk of Masked Lapwings still nesting in Canberra reminds me to post that the MLs of Eden have already got their hatchlings off and running. I have seen two separate families, both at the same stage. I estimate 7 to 10 days old.

I was at Kelly’s yesterday around noon. Saw one Latham’s Snipe.
While I was there, a Swamp Harrier flew in, accompanied in close escort by a raven and a pair of
Masked Lapwings. The latter have a nest on one of the little islands in the north portion. The SH landed deep in reeds such that I could not see it, but its presence was heralded by the periodic dive-bombing of the MLs. After about 30 minutes, the Harrier
summed up the courage (or couldn’t stand the shrieks of the lapwings any more) and climbed out of the reeds to fly further down the swamp again with close escort.
