A few observations from this week's cross-country skiing in the Snowies:
- emus at several locations along the Alpine Way;
- as usual, scrub wrens. What always amazes me is how these and other small over-wintering birds survive blizzards and 100kph winds and pop out as soon as the wind drops and the sun shines.  Remarkable;
- abandoned nest and egg inside a hurricane lamp at Teddys Hut (1725m elevation at head of Thredbo River).  Pic attached.
- a Bassian thrush on Sawpit Creek.

Cheers
Matthew Higgins
