Following on from my comment this morning concerning the scientific name for the Scarlet Robin, I looked up the ACT’s Fauna and Flora Committee’s annual report for 2013 – 2014. Guess what .... they have the Scarlet Robin listed as Petroica boodang! I quote ... ”The nomination of the Scarlet Robin (Petroica boodang) proposedthat (sic) it be listed as a vulnerable species.” Someone somewhere in the ACT Government needs to check just what bird they have listed. I also looked up the latest IOC list (5.1) of common bird names and they list P. boodang as the Scarlet Robin in Australia and P. multicolor as the Pacific Robin from Norfolk and other islands in the Pacific. I am not sure just who compiles the Birdlife Australia working list but many senior people in that organisation now use the IOC list for their personal lists. Work it out for yourselves!!!

Interesting that the ACT Government has declared the Pacific Robin, Petroica multicolour, as a threatened species when it doesn’t occur in the ACT whereas the Scarlet Robin, P. boodang, does!!

Today Environment Minister Simon Corbell has announced that the Scarlet Robin Petroica multicolor has been declared vulnerable in the ACT.
