I recently took some images of what I take to be Splendids in the Wilds
beyond Eubalong West.
As I understand it, adult females have brown bills, lores, eyerings and
legs.
Breeding males speak for themselves.
Eclipse males have dark lores, black legs and black bills.
I took some images of birds with brown lores and brown eyerings but with
black bills and legs. See pic.
My question is this: are the latter birds young males which have yet to
reach either breeding plumage or eclipse plumage?
A possibility I discarded is eclipse male Variegated because they have
brown legs.
