One answer to Geoffrey's question 'What is a lot?' comes from the ABR data on Cattle Egrets in COG's area of interest:
- the 10 year average to 30 Jun 2013 was 7.2, and the 30 year average 6.9
- last year, ie the year to 30 Jun 2014, altho the mean number reported was 13.8, the median was just 5.0, with the distribution being skewed by multiple records of the large flock at Jerra in April 2014, max 101 on 16 April as Chris Davey mentioned.
Regards - David

What is a lot?  It was only a year ago we had more than 100 at one time at Jerra Wetlands, over several weeks

Interesting, David.

I saw a tight flock of 13 fly up the Murrumbidgee valley corridor to the west of us (Gleneagles/Murrumbidgee golf course) before veering left and flying right over our house, back on 9 April.

I knew 13 was a lot for the situation (and for my GBS site!) but hadn't realised it applied to the ACT region generally. I've only once previously recorded the species from here (a single bird), on 6 March 2014.

Hi, today 14 of them close to Trucking Yard Dam - a fairly high number compared with the Canberra averages - David
