The Hoskinstown Plain is currently covered with haws, which as usual are attracting Gang-gangs. I found a flock of 21 near the entrance to Mills Cross. Also 13 Australasian Shovelers on a nearby dam. On the outskirts of Bungendore there were 'only' 100 Shelduck on the meadow (about half by the dam and rest feeding all over the paddock. There was a similar paucity of Plumed Whistling Duck with a count of 52 in Trcuking Yard Lane. Many Sulphur-crested Cockatoos and Galahs feeding on spilt grain. I concluded my foray at Newline Paddocks where I was initially disappointed with diversity in the paddock. However things brightened up alone the Lane with Double-barred Finch (6) Black-shouldered Kite (1), 10 Noisy Friarbirds; 20+ Eastern Rosellas, 10+ Red-rumped Parrots and 4 Rainbow Lorikeets contributing to a list of 30 species in that locale. Some snaps are on my blog. Martin Butterfield |
