I am doing a geology course with U3A and yesterday we went to inter alia Casuarina Sands. The highlight of the visit was a restless Flycatcher on the lawns nearest to bridge. My memory is that this species was common in that general area when we first arrived in Canberra in 1983 but has been very hard to find in recent years. Today I did a quick foray to a few bits of the West Basin of LB-G looking mainly, and again unsuccessfully, for the Great Crested Grebes seen there on Tuesday. The most interesting sighting was about 100 Hirundines - mainly Tree Martins - in some bare treetops at Acacia Inlet Park. Martin Butterfield |
