Satin Bowerbirds

I recorded a young immature SB two years ago (for the first time)- it looked very similar to your bird,  and saw an adult bird feeding a dependent young in my garden at Fairfax Street O’Connor in late spring/summer last year. I have lived at my current address for 20 years. It would be interesting to have a close look at COG’s records of this species in urban Canberra to see whether there is much more evidence for it spreading more widely from its traditional haunts in the south-western suburbs, at least on a seasonal basis. I suspect there is.

Rgds,

Ian Baird

Yesterday, I saw 3, maybe 4, young Satin Bowerbirds in an ironbark just over my back fence in Weetangera. This is the first time I have seen them in our area. Are they spreading up from the south?
