Subject: [canberrabirds] White-necked Heron Lyneham wetland
I had wonderful views of a single bird, probably an adult, circling high above the Lyneham wetland at about 13:30 hrs. The white 'shoulder' patches described by Simpson and Day ... as looking 'like headlights on flying bird', and subsequently by Pizzey as 'landing lights', were readily visible. The local Australian Magpie-larks and Magpies responded as to a raptor, diving at it repeatedly. They were somewhat agitated.
An unidentified V of 7 waterbirds flew over even higher: ?
Cormorants, or ?Darters.
Isobel.
